Embracing Competition!

At this stage, players shift toward the competitive side of football through the "Play to Compete" philosophy, refining their awareness, body shape, control, and concentration across all aspects of the game. While rotation continues, playing time is increasingly influenced by position, team needs, attendance, physical attributes, and attitude. Building on previous experience, players now focus on mastering specific positions, deepening their tactical understanding and sense of responsibility within the team.

As players progress, they enter a crucial phase transitioning into the competitive aspect of the game. While winning is not the primary goal, players now strive to master the competitive nature of football. This stage introduces the “Play to Compete” approach, an essential part of their development. They advance their skills across the four pillars of football: Technical, Tactical, Physical, and Socio-Psychological.

At Fox Football Vietnam, our coaches continue to implement a rotation system at this age level, ensuring opportunities for all players to fully participate within their chosen team. However, it is essential for players to understand that competition is an integral part of the game. As a result, certain factors may influence playing time, including:

  • Position of the players
  • Team needs (e.g., defensive players in a winning situation, attacking players when trailing)
  • Attendance throughout the year and during specific weeks
  • Strength and physical size
  • Attitude and commitment

Building on the positional foundations developed in the U12 category, players in this age group begin to shift their focus. While roles remain important, the emphasis now lies on mastering specific positions within the team, allowing players to gain a deeper understanding of their positional responsibilities and overall game awareness.
